Duane Michaels - Photographer

Duane Michaels is an American photographer born in February 18, 1932, distinguished by his sequential images exploring areas such as myths and mysteries. From a very early age he showed interests in the Arts. He went to Carnagie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before go to University of Denver, Colorado.

He also studied Graphic Design at Parsons School of Design before he became a photographer, in 1958.
He started travelling to Soviet Union and taking pictures of people in the street with a borrowed camera. In his return to America he worked as a freelance doing fashion photography and portraits. We can see some of his work on Vogue, Mademoiselle and Life magazines.

Over the years his point of view has changed substantially. His first approach in street happenings led him to make single documentary single images called the "social landscape" but later he lost the interest in this. Inspired by other artist, such as,  René Magritte and Balthus, Michaels began to express literary and philosophical ideas about death, gender and sexuality.

  1. You have written a biography of Duane Michals which you have not referenced! Please add references however this is not what we are looking for here - you should have looked at the work of Duane Michal's and how it related to the work you are creating in sequential images - his biography does not help you to understand this work..
